When Echelon published the first of the three novels they accepted from me, EEL’S REVERENCE, I wrote “Line of Descent”, a short story set in that same world. I put “Line of Descent” up for free at Smashwords, where it’s been downloaded many times.
As part of my blog book tour for EEL’S REVERENCE, I offered several prizes, one of which was your chosen name in a story I would write as a companion for my second book from Echelon, FORCE OF HABIT.
One person, a wonderful writer named Holly Jahangiri, won that dubious honor. Another person was so loyal in following the tour and commenting on the posts I had to include her chosen name, Kurt Maxxon, too–I just had to! Then there was Devra Langsam, owner of Poison Pen Press (not POISONED PEN PRESS, please note) who published the first and very different short-story version of FORCE OF HABIT. I wanted her in there, too. I love the cop in FORCE OF HABIT, so he had to be in there.
So I had some main characters. Then what? Books. Talking books. Living books from FAHRENHEIT 451. Literary mash-ups. And the story has begun. It’s called “By the Book”. See you when it’s over.
